The Gardens
Celle is also a city with recreative green spaces: The castle park and the French garden which is designated as a protected garden monument, is named after the French gardeners from Duke Georg Wilhelm, Perronet and Dahuron. The later of these created the first arrangements of a fruit and vegetable and a pleasure garden in the stately garden tradition of the early 17th century.
The medicinal plant garden is an EXPO project and its grounds are one of the largest in Europe. It displays a rich variety of fragrant herbs, the healing powers of which were already very much appreciated by Hildegard von Bingen and Pfarrer Kneipp.
Exotic beauties, full of colour, array the orchid centre Wichmann with the rich range of varieties of its tropical world.
