The Lüneburg Heathlands
Celle is also the southern gate to the Lüneburg heathlands, the largest recreational area in northern Germany.
Here, you can go on cycling tours, carriage rides, and cruises on the Aller and Oertze. You can ride and hike. You’ll encounter shepherds with their herds of Heidschnucken (heathland sheep), and churches and cloisters, farmyards lost in time and dreamy villages.
Enjoy the austere charm of this unique, wild, romantic natural landscape. During the blooming period in August and September the heathlands are transformed into a grand, glowing violet carpet.
